Meet Kevin

Our Sales, Marketing & Media Assistant Liam Armit sits down with Commercial Sales Specialist Kevin Smith to talk about his background in the industry, how he has found his change in role at Double A and his hopes for his career going forward...

Background:

Our Commercial Sales Specialist Kevin started his career in the groundcare industry at age 14, helping his dad out at Thornton Golf Club towards the end of his school life. “I always knew I wanted to be part of the industry” says Kevin. After obtaining a full time position at Thornton, Kevin served 4 years working as a greenkeeper, achieving qualifications in greenkeeping through Elmwood College on block release. Kevin later moved to The University of St Andrews for 6 years, working in the grounds team while studying horticulture. After some time at The University of St Andrews, a job appeared at St Leonards School in St Andrews as Grounds Team Leader which Kevin took, being promoted to Head Groundsman after 6 months, where Kevin worked for 5 years before joining Double A as a Commercial Sales Specialist at our Cupar Head Office, taking over from Hugh Ramsay, covering Angus, Tayside, Perth & Kinross, Fife, Clackmannanshire and Edinburgh.

Learning From Past Roles:

Our Sales, Marketing & Media Assistant Liam Armit asked Kevin, “What made you want to switch from being a consumer and user of products to a suppliers role?” To which Kevin replied, “It’s always been something that I’ve been quite interested in, I fancied a change after so many years of operating and being confined in one place and this sales role is different every day. Along with my background, coming from consumer to supplier, I’m able to help customers out and give my honest opinion into what machinery would best suit them and their budget.”

So Far:

“How have you found your move to Double A over the last 5 months?” Sales, Marketing & Media Assistant Liam asks Kevin. “It’s been really enjoyable so far, I like the variety my role has given me on a day-to-day basis, although I knew it was never going to be easy. Coming from a different side of the industry for 15 years and switching to sales has given me the knowledge and background to understand the machinery, although with the advances in technology, I’m still learning every day.”

Future:

“What are your hopes for your career going forwards with Double A?” Asks Liam. “I want to be the best at this role that I possibly can. Coming from a consumers background, I want to help people.  I know when or when not to visit people, I know about the machinery what people genuinely need to suit their budgets etc. I’m obviously new to this role but I’d like to be known and build up my reputation within the industry.”
