John Deere Lawn Tractor History: The 1990’s

The 1990’s… a decade of growth in both numbers and technology, providing more versatility than ever before.

John Deere reached both its 2 and 3 millionth milestones. In 1992 they manufactured their 2 millionth lawn tractor, the LX188 and in 1998 they manufactured their 3 millionth lawn tractor, the LT133.

During this period John Deere launched the GT, GX, LT and LX Series of lawn tractors.

The GT and GX Series were produced throughout the majority of the 90’s and were similar in appearance. These series were ideal for customers who required a little extra power and size. They had the ability to connect to a large selection of implements like baggers, front blades, and snow blowers as well as a number of rear attachments like aerators, utility carts and much more. Making them a very versatile machine.

The LT Series comprised of the 133, 155 and 166. This series quickly established itself as one of the most popular John Deere lawn tractors to date. Customers were provided with a high quality wide cut for better productivity along with a higher fuel capacity compared to competitive models in its range. The operators seat was adjustable and provided comfort for those who spent long hours on their equipment.

The LX Series began in 1990 with production of this series lasting 16 years, this series also offered a variety of models. This series will be most notably remembered for its versatility as each model was compatible with various sizes of cutting decks depending on the customers’ requirements. When not mowing this series was great for carrying out other projects. An example of this is its compatibility with snow blower attachments which would attached to the front of the machine, allowing customers to clear snow in the winter months.
