John Deere Autonomous Fairway Mower
John Deere reveals an autonomous fairway mower and also announces the acquisition of the OnLink software platform during the company’s Golf Technology Preview event last week, which was held at Deere’s primary testing and demonstration site. Near their world headquarters in Moline, Illinois.
The prototype which was on display was built on the back of the 7500A fairway mower. It is equipped with GPS technology which guides the mower based on mapping and routing which is set in advance by the Greenkeeper. It is more than likely a finished product will not be available for a few years, however John Deere are hopeful that full demos will be available at some point in 2020.
OnLink is a cloud based management platform which enables golf course to gather data and manage various factors such as equipment, labour costs, chemicals etc. The partnership between John Deere and OnLink dates back to 2017. John Deere now take full control of the software platform and will begin to integrate the technology into their solutions.
