John Deere 8RX Tractor CES Innovation Awards 2020
John Deere’s 8RX tractor recognised as an honoree in the category of Tech for a Better World at the CES Innovation Awards held at the CES Conference, running JAN 7-10, 2020 in Las Vegas Nevada.
CES is the Global Stage for Innovation and is the world's gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace.
Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it attracts the world's business leaders and pioneering thinkers.
CES showcases more than 4,400 exhibiting companies, including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and more; a conference program with more than 250 conference sessions and more than 170,000 attendees from 160 countries.
The John Deere 8RX tractor is the company’s latest high tech “office on tracks” used to prepare land, plant seeds, care for plants as they grow and transport grain from the field all while gathering data for future machine intelligence. Deere created the 8RX to solve three main challenges faced by global farmers. 1. It’s specifically designed and optimized to protect the ground, which improves sustainability. 2. From 2005 to 2019, an estimated 58 million fewer people will be employed in agriculture. With advanced automation technology, Deere makes it possible for less skilled workers to operate the 8RX. 3. AI, IoT and sensor technology increases productivity, enabling farmers to produce more to feed a growing global population.
Farmers must deal with immense challenges like short windows of time to do some of the most important work. A few hours of missed productivity could mean an entire field doesn’t get planted, which in turn means less food for the growing population that season and higher risk of continued farm success. A farmer’s workday can last up to 20 hours and it’s nearly impossible to maintain the intense concentration needed to precisely get all the necessary jobs done – especially when they’re spending all that time in the cab of a machine. The 8RX incorporates UX features like an upgraded massaging swivel seat that not only increases comfort for farmers spending so much time in their machines, but reduces fatigue, ensuring that farmers are always alert to eliminate mistakes.
